GUTERMANN MULTISCAN – Multi-Purpose Intelligent Leak Detector

The GUTERMANN MULTISCAN smart water leak detection device, with up to ten (10) correlation sensors, provides extremely sensitive acoustic correlation measurement in the region where it is installed in a single application. The sensors can be programmed for a few minutes or overnight at low background noise. A noise level measurement is automatically performed along with the correlation measurement, which gives an additional indication of the location of the leak. Sensors can be easily programmed and received data via a radio interface (commlink). The stainless steel housing of the sensors provides maximum protection against corrosion.

The antennas of the correlator device are fixed to the valves at both ends and the correlation technique is applied by entering the above data into the device. As a result of this process, the leak point(s) on that line are determined exactly.

The correlation method cannot be applied without the above data. In addition, for this method to be applied, there should be valves at two points where the correlator antennas can be fixed and send their signals.

Spot Intelligent Leak Detection
The second “pinpointing” method is to listen sensitively on the pipe with an “acoustic listening microphone”. The acoustic listening method is applied in the pinpoint detection of water leaks where the correlation technique cannot be applied or cannot be detected by this technique. In this method, the point(s) with the highest sound level is determined by listening for noise at certain distance intervals on the line with a sensitive acoustic microphone that is sensitive to sound. This point(s) is the point(s) where the water leak is present.

In order for the above-mentioned water leak detection works to be carried out in the most accurate and fast way, the condition that the water leak detection devices to be used must be of high quality and sensitivity.

The water leakage points, which are pinpointed by correlation and acoustic listening methods, are excavated and the fault causing the leakage is repaired. Two methods are generally used for repair, depending on the type and size of the fault.

The first and most applied method is to repair with a “quick repair clamp” suitable for the pipe diameter. The most important advantage of this method is that it does not need to interrupt the flow in the network.

In the second repair method, the pipe is cut to the required length at the leak point and an additional piece (preferably of the same material) is mounted in between. In this method, it is not a preferred method except for mandatory cases, since the flow in the network must be interrupted.

In both methods, it is necessary to completely open the pipe around the leak point. After the repair process is completed, it must be tested whether the repair is done properly before the pipe is covered.
