COMPOUND SENTENCES ( Karmaşık Cümleler )
İki ya da daha fazla basit cümleden (simple sentence) oluşup birbirlerine “and”, “but”, gibi bağlaçlarla (coordinating conjunctions) bağlanan cümlelere “compound sentence” denir. Bir “compoun” cümle şu biçimde kurulur :
*The bell rang and the music began.
Zil çaldı ve müzik başladı.
*Come and have a cup of coffee.
Gel ve bir fincan kahve iç.
*Ayşe went out but I stayed at home.
Ayşe dışarı çıktı fakat ben evde kaldım.
*Peter shouted loudly for help, but no one heard him.
Peter yardım için yüksek sesle bağırdı fakat onu kimse duymadı.
İki yada daha fazla basit cümleden oluşan bir “compound” cümlede eğer cümlelerin özneleri aynı ise, ikinci ya da daha sonraki cümlelerde bu özneler atılabilir :
*Fiona had her tea and (she) went out.
Fiona çayını içti ve dışarı çıktı.
*My father made several attempts, but (he) didn’t succeed.
Babam birçok kez girişimde bulundu fakat başaramadı.

*My sister got up early, (she) had breakfast, and (she) went out.
Kız kardeşim erken kalktı, kahvatısını yaptı ve dışarı çıktı.
COMPLEX – COMPOUND SENTENCES
“complex-compoun” cümleler şu biçimlerde kurulurlar :
1. SIMPLE SENTENCE – COMPLEX SENTENCE :
*My friend became rich, and he bought the house where I was born.
Arkadaşım zengin oldu ve benim doğduğum evi satın aldı.
*She went to the park, but she didn’t play as it was raining.
O parka gitti fakat yağmur yağdığı için oynamadı.
2. COMPLEX SENTENCE – SIMPLE SENTENCE
*The boy who is very rich came, and we had a good time together.
Zengin olan çocuk geldi ve birlikte iyi bir vakit geçirdik.
*He stood up when I came, but he didn’t salute me.
O ben gelince ayağa kalktı fakat beni selamlamadı.
3. COMPLEX SENTENCE – COMPLEX SENTENCE :
*The boy whom I met yesterday came, and we had a lovely chat until the lights went out.
Dün tanıştığım çocuk geldi ve ışıklar sönene kadar hoş bir biçimde çene çaldık.
Noun Clause ( Karmaşık Cümleler ) CLASSIFICATION OF “CO-ORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS” :
“compound” ve “complex- compound” cümlelerinde kullanılan ko-ordine eden bağlaçlar ( coordinating- conjunctions) anlamlarına göre şu biçimde sınıflandırılırlar :
1.ADDITION :
AND : ve
Bu tür cümlelerde genellikle “and” sözcüğünden sonra şu sözcüklerden biri kullanılır.

suddenly                 now
etc.
*I finished my breakfat and (I) went for a walk.
Kahvaltımı bitirdim ve yürüyüşe çıktım.
*They swim and dance a lot during the summer.
Onlar yazın bol bol yüzerler ve dans ederler.
*Selda jumped out of the car, and immediately ran towards the house.
Selda otomobilden atladı ve derhal eve doğru koştu.
*Lisa got out of bed, and then brushed her teeth.
Lisa yataktan kalktı ve ondan sonra dişlerini fırçaladı.
*My friend was elected President, and overnight his whole life changed.
Arkadaşım Başkan seçildi ve bir gece içinde tüm yaşantısı değişti.
*Mary was sitting in the sun, and the time passed pleasantly.

*I prepared my English lesson; also, I did my German homework.

*Television is entertaining; also, it is instructive.
Televizyon eğlencedir; bundan başka öğreticidir de.

AND ….. ALSO / TOO : ve …. de
Noun Clause ( Karmaşık Cümleler ) *I speak English very well and Mary does, too.
Ben İngilizceyi çok iyi konuşurum ve Mary de çok iyi konuşur.
*I saw Susan and I also saw George.
Susan’ı gördüm ve George’u da gördüm.
AND SO : ve de (olumlu cümlelerde)
*Lolita speaks Spanish an so do I.
Lolita İspanyolca konuşur ve bende konuşurum.
*I know that teacher and so does my father.
O öğretmeni tanıyorum ve babam da tanıyor.
*they went to the cinema and so did we.
Onlar sinemaya gitti ve biz de gittik.
*The children will visit the museum tomorrow and so shall we.
Öğrenciler yarın müzeyi gezecekler ve biz de gezeceğiz.
AND NEITHER/NOR :  ve de (olumsuz cümlelerde)
*Lolita doesn’t speak Spanish and neither do I.
Lolita İspanyolca konuşmaz ve  bende konuşmam.
*I don’t know that teacher an neither does my father.
O öğretmeni tanımıyorum ve babamda tanımıyor.
*They didn’t go to cinema and neither/nor did we.
Onlar sinemaya gitmediler ve biz de gitmedik.
*The children won’t visit the museum tomorrow and neither/nor shall we.
Çocuklar yarın müzeyi gezmeyecekler ve biz de gezmeyeceğiz.
*The students neither arrived on time, nor did they apologize.
Öğrenciler ne zamanında geldiler ne de  özür dilediler.
*I could nither shout for help nor could I run away.
